France and Germany fought over Strasbourg for centuries. And who can blame them? The
French capital of the Alsace region boasts labyrinthine canals, cobbled streets,
half-timbered houses and a medieval historic center. Strasbourg is known for local foie
gras and Riesling wine as well as the Gothic spires of its rose-colored cathedral. Home
to the Council of Europe and the European Parliament, Strasbourg is also one of
France's major ports. Its university counts Napoleon and Goethe among its
alumni.
