Ma. José Hidalgo GutiérrezCEO of Air Europa For Ma. José Hidalgo Gutiérrez, aviation isn't just a career, it's a family business. The daughter of one of the most successful self-made businessmen in Spanish history, Juan José Hidalgo, a main shareholder of Air Europa, Ms. Gutiérrez began assisting in growing and developing the airline, both in Halcón Viajes and in Travelplan, at a very young age. She began her studies in the city of her birth, Salamanca, and later completed a Masters in the IESE, a private institute connected to the University of Navarra. She then joined Air Europa in 1991, when a group of Spanish investors led by Juan José Hidalgo acquired the company. In 1996 she became deputy to the CEO, where she remained until 2003, when she was named CEO. Since then, she has headed the company that has a fleet of 41 aircraft and in 2009 carried more than 9 million passengers. Ma. José Hidalgo Gutiérrez is a member of the board of directors of Globalia, CEO of Mapfre Baleares and Vice President of both Exceltur (an alliance for excellence in tourism) and Fundatur (Tourism and Cultural Foundation of the Balearic Islands). She has been recognized by the Ministry of Labor for her contribution to women's equality in the professional world and awarded the Ramon Llull Prize by the Balearic Islands Government in recognition of her professional work. Other awards include recognition from the Business and Professional Women's Association for the most outstanding career in 2008. |
