On January 23, SkyTeam announced plans to introduce an Associate Program, opening a second tier of membership to select carriers that meet specific operational and service standards while extending the alliance's network.

The alliance opened a joint ticket facility at Brussels National Airport on June 10 to better serve SkyTeam customers.

In conjunction with its third anniversary, SkyTeam celebrated two important milestones in June. The alliance's Web site www.skyteam.com was upgraded to include additional travel resources, and a new "SkyTeam" terminal opened at Paris' Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport.

On September 30, SkyTeam's Governing Board welcomed KLM's decision to apply for SkyTeam membership, in the scope of a project announced by Air France and KLM to create a new leading European airline group through a share exchange between both airlines.
